Developing a CMS in about an hour

I had a need to record a bunch of data that I could put online to view, edit, and print if I wanted to. I searched for something and I really didn’t find anything specific to my needs. So in about an hour, using HTML, CSS< JavaScript and PHP with a sprinkle of JSON, I developed something.

A custom tool with fields I wanted, a script to read a data JSON file and render it all to a table. Functionality hidden behind a hashed password – and when logged in that functionality becomes available. For five minutes. And then after that, specific activity would require logging in once again.

I did look for something other than Numbers.app in iCloud. Or Notes. Something I could hand to someone that would look decent and be something I put together so I could change it easily if I thought of something to add to it. It’s a simple cellaring application – nothing earth shattering.

I only post about it because there is value when not being blessed to find a tool that pleases you – to create it yourself. Right now it only supports my account credentials but it could support different ones – and thus be put online for others to use as well. Being a web app means it’s very flexible and isn’t locked into an AppStore or the PlayStore – although something with camera support for barcode scanning and more would be kind of fun.
