This is a big advance for touchscreens. Toshiba Information Systems (a subsidiary of Toshiba) has developed something called “New Sensation UI Solution.” It provides tactile feedback to touchscreens. Because it uses a special film (made by a company called Senseg) gives feedback through charging the film.

The film can be affixed to uneven or curved surfaces. This means the film does not need to only be placed over a flat screen, but say on the back of a device as well.

Mass produced, the film will cost between $0.10 and $0.20. Devices using this technology are supposed to be rolling out sometime in 2011.
